Durability and Flexibility
Rendifield pulp and slurry hoses are built to be highly flexible, ensuring efficient handling of coal, copper, iron, phosphate concentrates, limestone, lead, zinc, nickel, bauxite, and oil sands. Designed to withstand suction forces, these hoses maintain structural integrity in demanding conditions.
For enhanced longevity, our large-diameter pulp and slurry hoses feature UV and weather-resistant outer covers, providing superior protection against environmental exposure.
With Rendifield’s robust and reliable hose solutions, mining and industrial operations can achieve efficiency, durability, and long-term performance in challenging conditions.
Pulp and slurry hoses physical properties and composition
Hand-built material handling hoses are traditionally composed of four key components:
Hose Liner
The liner serves as the impermeable barrier of the hose, designed to withstand physical, chemical, and thermal influences based on the application. The selection of a liner depends on:
- Material Composition: The nature of the materials being handled, including trace substances.
- Abrasive Content: Particle size and characteristics of suspended abrasive matter.
- Flow Conditions: Rate of flow, velocity, and operational temperature range.
Textile Reinforcement
The textile reinforcement determines the hose’s pressure capabilities, including working pressure, burst pressure, and safety factors. These factors must be specified by the customer or verified based on operational conditions.
- Working Pressure: Maximum allowable operating pressure (measured in kilopascals, kPa), typically 350, 700, 1000, and 1500 kPa, with some hoses rated up to 50 bar.
- Burst Pressure: The pressure at which the hose ruptures, measured in kPa.
- Safety Factor: The ratio between working pressure and burst pressure. All hoses are manufactured with a 3:1 safety factor.
Textile reinforcement materials commonly include:
- Square-woven textile fabric or uni-directional tyre-corded fabric or steel matrices.
- Application angles affect hose dimensional stability. The correct angle prevents undesired expansion or contraction when subjected to pressure.
Wire Reinforcement
A galvanised steel wire helix or hooped steel ring provides additional strength and suction capability. The diameter and pitch of the wire or ring affect performance under bi-directional differential pressures.
- Vacuum or Suction Pressure: Also known as negative pressure, measured below atmospheric pressure.
- External Armouring (Optional): A spirally applied helix wire on the outer cover prevents damage when the hose is dragged over rough surfaces.
Outer Cover
The outer cover protects the hose from premature damage and environmental factors. Selection depends on:
- Climatic Conditions: Exposure to weathering, UV radiation, and temperature extremes.
- Operational Conditions: Whether the hose is static or frequently dragged over rough terrain.
These conditions must be specified by the customer or assessed on-site to ensure optimal hose performance and longevity.
With durability, flexibility, and high-pressure resistance, Rendifield pulp and slurry hoses provide exceptional performance for demanding industrial and mining applications.

Pulp and slurry hoses dimensions
Understanding hose dimensions is crucial for selecting the right fit for your application.
- Nominal Bore (NB): The internal diameter of the hose, measured in millimetres.
- Hose Length: The total measured length, either from flange face to flange face (for flanged hoses) or end to end(for unflanged hoses).
Maximum Available Hose Lengths by Size:
- 40mm – 125mm Nominal Bore: Up to 20m in length.
- 150mm – 750mm Nominal Bore: Up to 12m in length.
- 800mm – 1000mm Nominal Bore: Up to 5m in length.
Our manufacturing facility ensures precision and durability, delivering hoses tailored to meet the demands of high-performance industrial and mining applications.
Hose couplings
BUILT IN
HD 890 COUPLINGS
These couplings consist of a bead ring supported metal flange which ensures maximum integrity and high pressure capability. The hose reinforcement passes around the “D” ring and provides for easy bolt installation. The molded, rubber facing provides excellent end sealing.
Sizes available – 50 – 600 mm
Note:
Not supplied in hoses with extra heavy duty ultra thick liners.
Available in a choice of flange materials – Mild Steel, stainless steel glass filled nylon etc
EXTERNAL HOSE COUPLINGS (CLAMPS)
This external coupling system is built with high grade LM6 aluminum.
The system has outstanding high pressure holding ability up to 1000 KPa and consists of two halves with internal helix, which corresponds to the corrugations on the rubber hose.
These couplings are designed for fast simple fitting and do not require any special tools
This coupling system is re-usable and suitable for use on hard wall material handling hoses. The extent of the range available will be more fully covered when we address the hardwall material handling hose range, later in this presentation
Hose bends
Our standard range of preformed hand-built rubber hose bends is detailed in the tables below, specifying nominal bore and bend radii. Each bend is custom-built to match the application and operational requirements provided by the customer. Based on these specifications, the appropriate liner, reinforcement, cover, and hose ends are developed.
For bends outside our standard scope, we can manufacture customised solutions, provided the required formers are available or can be produced.
Key Considerations:
- “Extra Liner on Outer Arc” refers to a bend with a heavy-duty liner applied only to the outside arc, making its thickness twice that of the inner arc.
- Short radius bends cannot be supplied at angles less than 90°.
Our team ensures precision, durability, and customisation to meet the most demanding industrial applications.
