RENDIFIELD MINING AND INDUSTRIAL PIPING SOLUTIONS mining hoses are manufactured for various types of mining materials, including slurry, waste and environmental discharges, dredging operation etc. Mining hoses are designed to cover a wide range of applications, including irrigation, general watering, dewatering, pump discharge, industrial wash-downs and general discharges.

Pulp and slurry hoses are manufactured to be flexible and withstand suction of typical materials such as coal, copper, iron, phosphate concentrates, limestone, lead, zinc, nickel, bauxite and oil sands. Large diameter pulp and slurry hoses are constructed with UV and weather-resistant outer covers.

Pulp and slurry hoses physical properties and composition

A hand-built material handling hose traditionally consists of three components:

HOSE LINER

The Liner forms the basis of any hose.  It is an impermeable barrier with many possible characteristics. These characteristics are determined by the end use of the actual hose, the choice of the elastomer being based on the application specific physical, chemical and thermal influences expected in service.

In selecting a liner the following details must be taken into consideration:

 The nature and composition (including substances present in trace quantities) of the material(s) to be handled

The content, particle size, and physical characteristics of any abrasive suspended matter liable to be present in the material(s),

The rate(s) of flow, velocity and the minimum and maximum operational temperatures

TEXTILE REINFORCEMENT

The Textile Reinforcement imparts the required string stroke pressure capabilities of the hose and determines working pressure and burst pressure relative to the factor of safety, These operational criteria must be determined from the Customer or verified in terms of the application and operational circumstance.

Working pressure is the maximum allowable operating pressure, or pressure  that the hose or preformed bend may safely hold during normal operation, measured in kilopascals (KPa). Typically standard hose working pressures are 350, 700, 1000, and  1500 Kpa, however hoses with working pressures of up to 50 bar are possible.

Burst pressure is literally the pressure, measured in kilopascals (KPa),  that a  hose can handle before rupturing or “bursting”.

Safety factor is the relationship between the working pressure and burst pressure of the hose. All hoses are manufactured with a safety factor of 3 : 1

The textile reinforcement within hand-built rubber hoses is typically square woven textile fabric or uni-directional tyre corded matrices of fabric or steel.

The angle of application or neutral angle at which of square woven textile fabrics are applied, given that the tensile strength of both the warp and weft elements of the fabric are the same is 45° measured parallel to the axis of the hose. The angle of application or neutral angle at which uni-directional tyre corded matrices of fabric or steel are applied is 54°44’ measured parallel to the axis of the hose.

In the event that the angle of application is greater than that required the nominal bore of the hose will increase and the length decrease when the hose is subjected to normal working pressure. The converse will apply where the angle of application is less than that required in that the hose nominal bore will decrease and the length increase when the hose is subjected to normal working pressure. The angle of application accordingly is fundamental to hose dimensional stability under pressure.

WIRE REINFORCEMENT

A galvanized steel wire helix, or hooped steel ring is the reinforcement which imparts added strength or suction ability to the hose. This operational criteria must be determined from the Customer or verified in terms of the application and operational circumstance.

Vacuum or suction pressure also often referred to as negative pressure (or soft vacuum) is the pressure measured below that of atmospheric pressure. Hoses are often required to operate at bi-directional differential pressures.

This is a function of wire or ring diameter and pitch, which is the distance from one point on a helix or ring to the corresponding point on the next turn of the helix or ring measured parallel to the axis.

External armouring is optional where a Helix wire is spirally applied to the outer cover to prevent damage such as that which would occur where a hose is dragged over a rough surface. 

OUTER COVER

The cover is the outer protection for the hose which prevents prematuredamage to reinforcement and resistant to the environment in which the hose is operational..

In selecting a cover the following details must be taken into consideration.

  • Climatic conditions, including prevailing weather conditions including minimum and maximum ambient and operational temperatures, exposure to the weathering, sun and UV exposure.
  • Operational conditions, is the hose static, or dragged over rough terrain
  • These conditions must be determined from the Customer or verified in situ.

Pulp and slurry hoses dimensions

NOMINAL BORE is the internal measurement, in millimeters, across the diameter of the mouth of a hose.

HOSE LENGTH is the length of the hose measured in millimeters, from flange face to flange face, alternatively in the case of un-flanged hoses from end to end

The manufacturing plant is capable of manufacturing and curing hoses in the following maximum lengths

  • 40mm nominal bore – 125mm nominal bore , we can offer lengths up to 20m.
  • 150mm nominal bore – 750mm nominal bore, we can offer lengths up to 12m.
  • 800mm nominal bore  – 1000mm nominal bore we can offer lengths up to 5m

BEND DIMENSIONAL REQUIREMENTS – CENTRE TO FACE CALCULATIONS

  • R = Radius of P3 = 650mm .
  • A = Centre to Face.
  • X = 1/2 Bend angle = 22° 30′ tan 1/2 bend angle from tables  = 0.4142
  • Centre to Face = 650 x 0.4142
  • Centre to Face = 269mm

NB : In a 90° bend the radius and Centre to Face are the same dimensionally

 

Hose couplings

BUILT IN 

HD 890 COUPLINGS
These couplings consist of a bead ring supported metal flange which ensures maximum integrity and high pressure capability. The hose reinforcement passes around the “D” ring and provides for easy bolt installation. The molded, rubber facing provides excellent end sealing.
Sizes available   –  50 – 600 mm

Note:

Not supplied in hoses with extra heavy duty ultra thick liners.
Available in a choice of flange materials – Mild Steel, stainless steel glass filled nylon etc

EXTERNAL HOSE COUPLINGS (CLAMPS)

This external coupling system is built with high grade LM6 aluminum.

The system has outstanding high pressure holding ability up to 1000 KPa and consists of two halves with internal helix, which corresponds to the corrugations on the rubber hose.

These couplings are designed for fast simple fitting and do not require any special tools

.This coupling system is re-usable and suitable for use on hard wall material handling hoses. The extent of the range available will be more fully covered when we address the hardwall material handling hose range, later in this presentation

 

Hose bends

Our standard range of preformed hand-built rubber hose bends are reflected in the tables that follow which details nominal bore and bend radii available. The bend construction will be specifically tailored to suit the application and operational circumstances volunteered by the Customer against which the appropriate liner, reinforcement, cover and hose ends will be developed. Bends that fall outside of our present scope can be manufactured subject to the availability or production of the requisite former.

The terms “Extra Liner on Outer Arc” is used in describing a bend built with a heavy duty liner which is applied only to the outside arc of a bend, so that the thickness of liner on the outside arc is double that on the inside arc.

Short radius bends CANNOT be supplied less than 90°
